Over the centuries, the island has changed its surname several times according to its owners. Its very first name was «Insula Cranie» because of the Gallo-Roman tombs found at the time, which testified to a Roman presence before the decline of the Empire. The island was the refuge of pirates to make way for a hunting reserve and finally to be occupied by a community of reli- gious brothers. In 1220, following the visit of Saint Francis of Assisi, it thus became a monastery.
In the 19th century, the island often changed families and therefore scenery. It was the Lechi, then the Scotti and finally the Borghese who, in 1927, passed on this heritage to Count Alessandro Cavazza of Bologna, grandfather of the current owners.
Far from the world, an island with a thousand-year-old past lives to the rhythm of birdsong in an enchanting setting rocked by the waters of the lake ...A fairy tale whose sweetness we would like to forever keep when the boat pulls away, carrying its visitors with a pang in the heart at the forced abandonment of so many beauties.
