MD IAMI REAM
By
ALESSANDRA CENNA
The name Miami means fresh water and owes its origin to the Maysimi tribe who lived in Florida in pre-Columbian times.
In 1513 the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce De Leon landed in Biscayne Bay, followed by the arrival of many groups of settlers. Bringing many viruses from old Europe in their luggage, they eradicated the Amerindian populations of the time. It was then the arrival of the British colonists before the treasure seekers followed by runaway slaves and the Seminoles, people of North America.
