Cocteau adapted Sophocles’ play in 1922; Picasso created the masks and Chanel the costumes, both drawing inspiration from Ancient Greece.
The fourth part of the exhibition takes its name from Diaghilev’s ballet, Le Train bleu. Cocteau wrote the booklet inspired by sports and swimwear.
A small gouache by Picasso representing two women running on the beach has become the image of the stage curtain.
As for Chanel, a passionate sportswoman, she created costumes for the dancers inspired by her own sportswear.
