This monographic exhibition cannot discuss his artistic career without looking at his psychology, which laid the foundations for what would later be called “Arts & Crafts”. This defense of art in everything and for everyone came as a reaction to the industrializa- tion and dehumanization of craftsmanship.
Coming from a wealthy middle-class family, he left his theology studies at Oxford to devote himself to architecture. There he met the “Pre-Raphaelites Brotherhood” and then founded the “Morris & C” brand in 1861.
These particularly gifted artisans manufactured wallpaper, stained glass, ceramics and furniture with dignity. This company will be very successful until its closure in 1940.
