The exhibition “Photo & Food: food in Magnum photographs, from the 1940s to today” held in Verona in the space of Eataly Art House is a group exhibition that presents 125 magnificent images by 29 artists international.
Its central theme is food with its traditions and social influences in the last 80 years
Produced in collaboration with the photographic agency Magnum Photos, it retraces in five sections, divided in chronological and thematic order, the importance of food as a social, economic and symbolic element. It admirably underlines the close links that exist between human life, society and the activities that are intimately linked to the produc- tion and manufacture of food in the world.
The exhibition opens with the dramatic black and white images of Werner Bischof and David Seymour, poignant testimonies of the difficult years of the Second World War with famine and the bitter taste of conflict, a sad time when food was a daily concern.
The lost and desperate eyes of refugees and orphans give way to the exploration of the economic boom of the 1950s and 1960s. The images of Elliot Erwitt and Martin Paar underline this new well-being when the terraces of cafés and restaurants are transformed into meeting places and social gatherings.
Food takes on great importance in everyday life.
