Covering nearly 2,200 square meters, the Center Pompidou is devoting a vast retrospective to the British architect Norman Foster and thus highlights a large part of his immense work.
The choice of location is appropriate because the Museum is conside- red one of the first manifestos of the “High Tech” current, of which Foster is a part along with Richard Rogers, the other great English architect of the 20th century who, with the Italian architect Renzo Piano, designed Beaubourg in 1977.
Aged 88, Norman Foster was born and raised in Manchester. He took architecture courses at the local University alongside his work and, thanks to a scholarship, he went to the United States to Yale University where he met Richard Rogers.
Together in 1963 they returned to London and founded the «Team 4» agency, which became, after Rogers’ secondment in 1967, «Foster Associates» then «Foster + Partners» in 1992.The first projects were linked to nature and light, very often using brick as a material.
His most striking creations are large, often public, iconic works that become symbols of a place, airports, transport networks, bridges, museums and high-rise buildings.
His achievements have changed the face of cities.Norman Foster always seeks to reconcile progress and a sustainable technological approach while respecting the environment and nature.
