The year 1885 marks an important era for the artist. Following the first exhibition of the Société des Pastellistes, she used pastels as well as oils. Berthe Morisot was attracted by light tones in a painting that leaves room for the unfi- nished. This new mastered technique allows her to paint quickly and gives a cer- tain spontaneity to her subjects.
The exhibition ends with “Repos”, a painting which underlines Berthe Morisot’s close relationship with 18th century art, her sleeping young daughter being close to Boucher’s style.
The gentleness of her feminine figures, her pastoral scenes and the influence of the past have allowed this Grande Dame of Impressionism to evolve with success, modernity and sensuality in a masculine universe.
