IN2020, Inrap archaeologists excavated a necropolis in Autun and discovered 230 tombs, including those of the Gallo-Roman aristocracy. They unearthed an incredible fabric from the Early Christian period woven with gold thread and foliate motifs.
Throughout the exhibition, incredible pieces are presented, marvelous examples of exceptional craftsmanship and the most ingenious techniques. A fascinating world tour offers a unique vision of kimonos and ceremonial coats, from wed- ding dresses to warrior armor. Tunics are displayed alongside accessories such as precious slippers and fabulous gold-woven silks from India and Indonesia.
The renowned and contemporary Maison Lesage is honored with its incomparable embroidery for the greatest couture houses. Sequins, beads, pearls, and gold thread compete for light in a sumptuous piece designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior in 2004, inspired by his journey to Egypt in the great lineage of the pharaohs.
Born in 1967 in Beijing, designer Guo Pei, after launching one of the first bespoke fashion workshops in her country, the Rose Studio, turned her attention to haute couture, with creations requiring an exceptional number of hours of work, meters of fabric and gold thread.
