They are accompanied by portraits of Carolus-Duran and
Louise Breslau, emphasizing the dialogue between painting
and couture. The scenography plays with volumes and lighting
to better highlight the sumptuous textures: silks, rich velvets,
pearls, embroidery, and trimmings. In a dedicated section, an
olfactory display brings to life the fragrances created by the
house, including «Je Reviens,» with its famous Lalique bottle.
His clean lines and opalescent blue glass embody the perfect
alliance between perfumery and the art of glassmaking. Indeed,
the house of Worth also distinguished itself in the world of per-
fumery. In 1924, it launched its first fragrance, «Dans la Nuit,»
followed by «Je Reviens» in 1932.
Charles Frederick Worth established the foundations of haute
couture; his sons, Jean-Philippe and Gaston Worth, took over
the artistic direction of the house after his death in 1895 and
hired Paul Poiret to modernize the creations. Poiret went on to
open his own atelier in 1903.
