Passionate opera enthusiast, David Hockney regularly welcomes musicians and
dancers into his home.
Since the 1970s, he has sought to reinterpret his stage creations in a polyphonic crea-
tion that is both musical and visual. In collaboration with 59 Studio, he envelops the
visitor in his art in the heart of the Foundation Louis Vuitton’s most monumental
room. The exhibition closes with an intimate room revealing the most recent works
painted in London, where the artist has resided since July 2023.
Inspired by Edvard Munch and William Blake, astronomy, history and geography
meet here with a form of spirituality, in the artist’s own words. He also wanted to
physically enshrine his soul there by including his very last self-portrait.
David Hockney has created this superb retrospective,
showcasing all the youthful freshness of his creativity
qand the mastery of his incomparable talent.
