Fernando Botero, Colombian painter and sculptor born in Medellin in 1932, has chosen to celebrate his 85th birthday and 50-year career in Verona with a wonderful exhibition at the Amo-Palazzo Forti Museum.
Internationally famous, Botero’s unique style is deeply in- fluenced by his Latin American origins and yet this citizen of the world represents an art without borders and without judgment.
His characters with rounded shapes and exaggerated pro- portions, his vivacious and exuberant colors, his evoca- tions of a classic universe and his fiabesque atmospheres, punctuate all phases of his artistic career.
Inspired in his early days by colonial Baroque, pre-Colum- bian art and Mexican mural painting, as the main subject of the daily life of a local community, he will gradually enrich his style through the influences of great artists. He draws on Velasquez, Goya, Manet and Cézanne to achieve a very personal reinterpretation of his subjects in his still lifes and scenes of daily life.
