The Town Hall with its turrets and statues, the Great Beguinage, the abbeys, the churches, the ramparts, the univer- sity buildings draw from their architecture its romantic atmos- phere.
On the outskirts of Leuven, a wonderful abbey complex, the Abbey Park, opened to the public after a first phase of major restoration work.
The huge estate, true green lung of the city, has retained its authentic character with its period features, water mill, barn, the headmaster’s house, hospice and access doors.Since 1129, the estate has been inhabited by Norbertins, regular canons in white clothes whose contemplative activities are punctuated by rural and pastoral work.
Transformed during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, the monastery has nevertheless kept all the magic spirit of the Middle Ages.
