The echo between Valery’s text and the works of Degas is at the heart of this beautiful course at the Musée d’Orsay. The question of drawing in its lines, its features, its forms, leads to that of the dance, the movement of the dancers, the graceful and fast horses that spring into space.
The dance is like a writing of the body, a «poem freed from all the apparatus of the scribe», which in its maze of graces, speaks of love and infinity. The dancer is the dance; she exceeds the nature of her body to blend into the divine space of music.
