Freed from the rules, the self-taught artist Henri Rousseau combines, meanwhile, joyous entertainment and dreamlike scenes. In all the richness of their palettes, Picasso’s works are widely represented in the light of the very strong personal relationship maintained between the artist and the collector throughout his life.
This historical presentation of the Thannhauser Collection at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao not only evokes the rise of modern art in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centu- ries, but is also intended to underline the unwavering loyalty to an experimental art of the Thannhauser family.
An exceptional exhibition both for the talents represented and for its history at the heart of art.
