Recognized as one of the most important artists of the 20th century, Edward Hopper (1882-1967) is mainly known for his oil paintings of scenes of urban life dating from the 1920s to 1960s. These very popular images have long left behind his approach to the American landscape.
From January 26 to May 17, 2020, the Beyeler Foundation presents a vast exhibition devoted to these emblematic paintings of the genre with a selection of watercolors and drawings.
65 works dating from 1909 to 1965 were thus brought together by the Beyeler Foundation in cooperation with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the main world depository of Hopper’s works.
