This African story begins with two Finnish designers, Mari Martikainen and Minna Impiö.
Friends since the University of Helsinki, it was in 2009 that they began to forge their ties with Kenya.
Minna was staying in Nairobi and when Mari came to visit her, they discover together in the heart of the local market a whole universe rich in colors of baskets upon baskets, African creations made thanks to the traditional tech- niques of Kiondo weaving of the women living in the rural villages of the region of Machakos.
They decide to combine this know-how and manual dexterity with a clean Finnish design under the name «Mifuko» which means «pocket» in Swahili.
